TECHNOWITCH

This work is much better than Perplextion and although it isn't finished yet, I would like to finish it some day.

PROLOGUE

Sweat dripped down my dirt plastered face. The sweat was from running and dirt was from me tripping repeatedly. The dress wasn't helping, it would catch around my legs causing me to stumble every few seconds. All this dress was doing was helping those pursuing me get closer.

I looked behind me to see if my pursuers were catching up with me. Fortunately, I couldn't see them yet, however, I could see the hint of glow coming from their lanterns and torches. I knew eventually they were going to catch up with me, it was just a matter of time.

A couple weeks ago I never expected myself to be here, you know; being chased by a bunch of puritans. There was a 0% chance that I would end here. Well I take that back, it was approximately 2x10^-200% likely to happen. But anyway, my point is that it was pretty darn unlikely. What lead up to this started just a couple weeks ago....

I scrambled around my new dorm room trying to adjust all my things perfectly. The room was small and crowded which I expected from a college dorm room. A bunkbed was in one corner of the room and a desk was on the other side of it. A single large window brightened up the dull room.
I sighed and sat down on the bottom bunk in defeat. Who knew this would be so tiring? I allowed my back to fall and bounce on the bed. My long brown hair laid sprawled over the pillow as my mind wondered.
Last year, my friends told me that college was a place to party and get drunk. Whereas I thought of it as a place to learn and gain knowledge for the future. But these personal definitions did not inform me what college would be like; what it was all about. I still didn't know what to expect when I packed my bags and rode in a car for five hours with my parents to MIT. I had already been on a college tour there so I knew what it looked like, but I wasn't their student. Now that I was a student at this college, I was ready to learn but scared of what I have to look forward to. I was only sixteen; I didn't feel quite ready for this experience, for what was to come.
The door began to squeak open, causing me to jump out of bed. Once the door fully opened, it revealed a small girl with dark skin who I assumed was my roommate.
"Hey," I said meekly to her as I stuffed my drawer with cloths and other miscellaneous items.
"Hi nice to meet you, my name is Violet," she held out her hand for me to shake. I grabbed her hand and thanked God for such an outgoing roommate. "You must be Rae."
I nodded and smiled as I continued to finish unpacking, "Yup, that's me."
"What are you majoring in?" She asked.
"Engineering and physics, what about you?"
"Wow, double majoring, impressive. I'm majoring in business analytics. My parents own this corporation that they want me to help take over after college, so they only paid for me to get that degree," she rolled her chocolate brown eyes as the last couple words slipped off of her tongue.
"That's pretty cool," I said even though I didn't think it was cool, even in the slightest.
She smiled and shook her head, causing her black hair to skim back and forth on her shoulders. "Not compared to your double major and both of them have hard classes too! You must be a genius or something," she responded in awe.
"I would go with the 'or something,'" I laughed. "Where are you from?" I asked her.
    "California, and you?"
"I'm only from Maine, not near as far away as California or anything."
"Yeah that's for sure," she laughed. "I'm gonna go meet up with a few of my friends in a couple minutes. If you would like to come you are more than welcome," she said sweetly.
"Thank you, I would love to," I smiled.
